Liquid metal / ceramic manufacturing process

FLIP (Floating Instrument Platform) ship

This is great.

Tom’s latest post on the BERG blog on Gearbox reminded me of this - remote control Mario Kart with sound prompted power ups. There’s something really nice about implementing a feature known from console gaming to a physical product, that works well. I love the random power boosts, and the signal scrambling when someone throws an imaginary banana.

Nice.

Designed to Annoy: A theoretical look at designing inefficient packaging

As designers, we spend much of our time making things better, but what if to improve someone’s life, we had to make something worse? Recent RISD grad (alma mater shout out), Erik Askin recently published “Designed to Annoy: A theoretical look at designing inefficient packaging”, a thoughtful twist on the ubiquitous cigarette package. The idea of making something harder to use to encourage a user to rethink their consumption is poignant. I love the thought process and the visual exploration Erik shows. Check out the full project here.

Wow. I want this.

Sony has been working on a patent that sends two images from one video screen to two different people, allowing for two players to see different images on the same screen. Each player would need their own set of glasses (which would each pull off the right frames), which would then come with earphones for separate audio feeds, too.
